Briefings for Incoming Ministers in the National led Government,
to 19 December 2008
The Key led Government started releasing briefings to incoming ministers (BIMs)
shortly after the 19 Nov 2008 announcement of the Cabinet – the Ministerial
list.
Find out more from BIMs released, and in some cases, commented on,
by responsible ministers, at
http://www.beehive.govt.nz/feature/briefings+incoming+ministers+3
DecisionMaker has placed relevant BIM releases into a Cabinet list, alongside
the name of relevant minister and portfolio.
DecisionMaker will periodically update its consolidated list, which at 125 briefings before Christmas 2008, was more than the 77 we identified at the election three years earlier. We view the consolidation, made possible by the government, to be a valuable contribution for those who wish to take a whole of government perspective from their silo standpoint. The will, and the information technology, makes this possible.
DecisionMaker will also leave on this Links page the BIMs presented to ministers appointed in the last term of the fifth Labour Government, making it easier for readers to compare advice offered over time.

And about these 77 briefings to ministers as they came into their roles in the NZ Government 2005....they include and extend all the briefings listed in November 2005 on the government site www.beehive.govt.nz. They can lead you to content and links that might assist your research. Some of these briefings include or link to the connections of other specialised agencies. We do not list all ministers' portfolios - for some there were no formal briefings. For example, the Public Trust and its Minister Jim Anderton considered there was nothing to merit a written report on this ocassion. Other agencies have also briefed incoming ministers. We do not list all ministers in this links section - the core briefings for ministers also apply to associate ministers, except in some cases where clear delegation is given. And we do not show all briefings with one minister, some briefings are aimed at more than one minister. Some briefings obviously relate to a particular minister - but they may be significant in the hands of others as well. Find out more about what agencies do and suggest by reading their briefings, and find out more about portfolios in the index and other pages in DecisionMaker's How government works.
